L.i.n.k. project Summary
Over the corse of my LINK experience I did a lot of work with 4CORE's energy auditing team. I was an assistant on about 5 audit, over the course of these learned a lot about what they look at as far as building structure and appliances, as well as, anything that consumes energy. The rate that houses use energy really started to interest me so I applied all of the skills that I gained and applied then to an energy audit that I performed on my own home. I did not preform any tests such as CAZ zone or the blower door test, these require equipment I did not have access too. After I assessed my house I knew that it would be rated a good rating, as it turns out it scored a 9/10 with some un needed energy loss coming from the lighting and hot water heater, as well as the refrigerator. I made recommendations and upgrades that will reduce energy and help the environment. Since the upgrades were minimal I then looked at a cleaner source of energy production for this house. As a result of this I worked with Matt Helms who owns Flat Rock solar to decide what the solar system would look like on my house. Over this period of time at my internship I gained a lot of skills that I am really happy I have the knowledge of now. I also see this type of work in my future and I'm excited to see where I can go with it.
