First Amendment Essay
One summer as a young boy I decided to go to an outdoor bible camp. Brought to the camp more for the mountain biking and rock climbing I decided I could also take some advice from God. Over the course of the week I developed some sort of connection with this higher power. Then during one of the last days, my camp councilor talked me into accepting Jesus Crist into my life. Forced, I took this internal sticker its power fading not much after the camp ended. I had to familiarize my self with this practice to know I didn’t want it. Knowing that there was an organization of beliefs that mirrored myself more clearly.
Freedom of and from religion is a protection that is unique to America. Easily overlooked and often taken for granted, the freedoms regarding religion are important and essential for modern day life. Religion or an organization of beliefs is helpful in times of need and guidance. The ability to believe in what you want makes our society diverse, and stable among beliefs and ideals.
The freedom to believe in an organization of beliefs allows us to connect our self’s to a deeper, more personal constitution mirroring its user. Diversity among religions creates stability among the thoughts and ideals of the people. If we all followed the same religion we would limit perspective losing our unique individual traits. But with the freedom from religion gives everyone the ability to an individual and find what they believe and best mirror. Beliefs make people change life to be more suitable more fitted for them, expanding avocation for different needs. The freedom from religion is a key value in America. In hundreds of other countries around the world the government harasses individuals for their beliefs.
Religion is important to each and every individual. Organizing a collection of beliefs gives each person something to live and morally strive for. Modern day problems test one’s mental strength. Religion is a helpful way to ease these areas, which are in need of guidance. Strength in family connection is intertwined with the practice of religion. Studies also prove the church attendance helps with marital status and overall happiness. Although a church may not be your best suit, the use of some type of place of worship is beneficial to each and every.
Today there are many more types of religions, compared to the traditional views which where practiced back in the 1780’s. Over the course of this time many substantial social disruptions have originated from religion. After 9/11 America struggles to accept Muslims with respect, due to the religious stereotypes placed on the events that happened on this date. As of 1999 there has been double the amount of religion related issues in the workplace.
Pushed over the edge by extremist, religion can be taken to far. People with the same beliefs and ideals can be harmful to society when they are drastic. Among Muslim extremists, a woman’s testimony in court is worth half that of a man. A woman pursuing justice against her rapist must have more than one male witness to the crime, even though it seems unlikely that, except in cases of gang rape, there are ever any witnesses to such a crime with the exception of the victim and her victimizer. Setting an impossibly high standard of evidence. Within religions like this there becomes a hidden unequal constitution, degrading some of the individuals who strictly follow it.
This unique freedom protected for the people of the United States is essential for the individuals living in the modern world. Religion can help us find a deeper connection with our self’s and others. But we cannot degrade someone by their religion or their freedom from it. Whether you are religious or not, you are a part of a society where all ideals matter. Using this freedom to your advantage can be beneficial, but it can also be taken too far.
